Ride smart

Rules of the dirt

Short, because you'd rather be riding. These are the few things that keep the trails open, the neighbors happy and the volunteers from fixing what didn't need fixing.

Everywhere

  1. If you're leaving a rut, turn around. Soft trail after rain or during spring and fall freeze-thaw does more damage in one lap than a season of dry riding. Give it a day. Check conditions first.
  2. Ride open trails only. "Closed" on the conditions page means closed, even if the gate is open. Usually it's because a volunteer is in there with a chainsaw or a machine.
  3. Features have ride-arounds. Every drop, jump and skinny on LAMBO trails has a way past it. Look before you commit. Nobody is keeping score.
  4. Yield to people on foot, and uphill riders. The Raven in particular shares with hikers, runners and, in winter, skiers.
  5. Winter: fat bikes on groomed snow, and only fat bikes. 3.8-inch tires or wider, low pressure. If you're sinking more than an inch, the snow isn't ready. Never ride a set ski track.
  6. Pack it out. Tubes, wrappers, the works. There are no trash cans on the trail because there's nobody paid to empty them.
  7. Tell us what you find. A downed tree, a washout, a broken bridge board: post it on Trailforks or email us and a trail boss will get out there.

By trail

  • Every feature has a ride-around. Look before you drop.
  • Soft or muddy trail? If you're leaving a rut, turn around.

Zip Trail

  • Groomed snow in winter is for fat bikes only, 3.8-inch tires or wider, low pressure.
  • Soft or muddy trail? If you're leaving a rut, turn around.
  • The snowshoe loop is separate; please keep bikes on the bike trail.

Sucker Springs Singletrack

  • Bikes only. No hiking, horses or motor vehicles of any kind.

Raven Trail

  • Multi-use trail. Yield to hikers and runners; you'll cross a paved recreation trail.

If someone is hurt

Call 911. Then tell them which trail system and the nearest trail name or feature; the trailhead addresses are on each trail page and in the Trailforks app. Cell coverage is patchy in the woods, so if you have no signal, send someone toward the parking lot.

LAMBO's Bike Patrol is a National Ski Patrol unit with certified Outdoor Emergency Care patrollers. They are on the trail at every LAMBO event. Patrol contact: Mary Dunphy.
