The first five miles of the Musky Mountain Bike Trail System are machine-built, flowy trail designed for accessibility and fun. Smooth lines and some faster sections make it a great ride for almost anyone. For advanced riders, Phase 1 also has optional jumps, tall berms, and hand-built technical trail (B.A.D. Buzz, Toothy) to hone your skills on. Every feature has a ride-around.
Since then we’ve added The Rassier and Paddletail, a four-mile cross-country loop that heads out toward West Plum Lake, and the first downhill lines off the mountain itself: Switchblade, Fungry and Fangry.
Phase II: construction has begun
Phase II takes it up a notch with gravity-fueled downhill trails built along the dramatic slopes of Musky Mountain and its neighboring ridgelines. Expect steep descents, mandatory jumps, and large berms that keep you cruising at speed. The standout is the trail that challenges you to fly over Crank Bait.

A great location for a bike trail
Musky Mountain was a beloved local ski hill in the 1960s and early 1970s. Seeing this historic site revitalized as a year-round recreation destination is one of the best parts of the project.
Camping. Located between Boulder Junction and Sayner, just off Hwy N on Plum Firetower Rd, Musky Mountain is close to Crystal Lake Campground and Musky Lake Campground.
Heart of Vilas County paved trails. Musky Mountain connects to the paved trail network that runs from St. Germain to Sayner, Boulder Junction, Manitowish Waters, Winchester and Mercer. Stage a whole day’s adventure from here. From Musky Mountain you can ride the paved system all the way to WinMan Trails, about two and a half hours through some of the most beautiful sections of the network.
Nearby towns. Boulder Junction and Sayner both offer great services, amenities and lodging.
